NOTD - Sinful Colors 'Sugar Sugar' x China Glaze 'Golden Enchantment'

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the extreme hiatus - college is pretty busy at the moment!
However, I have good news to report - Boots is now selling Sinful Colors nail polish! This is really exciting because it's not often that we can get hold of US brands in the UK outside of trade outlets or department stores!

I've picked up 4 SC colours so far, and today I'll be showing you the latest one, 'Sugar Sugar'. This is a shimmery cherry red that's opaque in 2 coats. A word of warning - make sure your first coat is completely dry before applying a second, or it'll streak up a storm! In all other respects it applies pretty normally though.

On the plus side, 'Sugar Sugar' is fairly quick to dry, and it looks lovely with some glitter on top. I've decided to use two gold glitters here. One is by Rimmel, and it's called 'Disco Gold'. That's the bigger pieces of glitter that you can see below. The smaller glitter is a mix of gold and holo glitter that's by China Glaze, and it's called 'Golden Enchantment'. Please excuse any hangnails in advance, my cuticles are in a bad way at the moment!

It's a good combination, I think. The Rimmel glitter shines warm gold in some lights and green-hold in others, which makes for an interesting visual effect in different types of light. 'Golden Enchantment' has a mix of gold and holo glitters that are micro-micro-small, they're more like a dusting of glitter than actual sequins or anything - but this is why I like it so much. It adds something delicate to an otherwise bold combination.

Simple, quick and neat: Lazy nails that still look polished!

Hi everyone,

Exams are finally over and I can start posting more often!

I thought I'd share my method for an easy, quick way of getting nails to look nice and polished without having to apply multiple costs of a colour, wait ages for layers of polish to dry, and fuss over really obvious chipping a few days later!

I came up with this a little while ago for the evenings when I haven't got the energy nor inclination to paint my nails super carefully and elaborately. I also hate hate hate chipped nails, so the fact that this involves a sheer nude polish gets around that issue.

I've used a French manicure colour from Natural Collection (which is quick drying and a steal at £1.99) followed by a coat of OPI Nail Envy. The French manicure colour is quite sheer and a little on the streaky side depending on application, but it's cheap and looks lovely and neat on the nail.

I hope this has been helpful, bye for now!

Ocean Glitter - NOTD

Hello everyone! I hope that you had a great holiday season this December and a happy new year too!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, January A2 exams are getting in the way of pretty much everything at the moment.

Today I'm sharing with you a lovely, frosty manicure. It's inspired by the sea!
I really like it when holo glitter polishes are left rough on the nail, so that they sparkle more and look like mermaid scales or ice. It's an interesting, eye catching look that also seems to not be as prone to chipping depending on the polishes that you use.

This manicure works around that idea of rough glitter finishes!
I apologise in advance for photo quality, I don't have a proper camera so I have to resort to using my iPhone instead...

Here's the finished product:

And here is what I used to achieve these effects:

From L-R: Sweet Kisses by 17, Aquatic Glitz by POP, Mermaid's Dream by Deborah Lippmann

Basically, what I did on my index to little fingers was 2 coats of Sweet Kisses, followed by 1 coat of Aquatic Glitz. The pinky - nude colour of SK gives the AG a slightly more cornflower blue appearance and gives a nice subtle colour base for the glitter. Sweet Kisses applies well but takes a little while to dry, which isn't so great for someone like me who can be very clumsy with their hands! No matter, as the glitter covers any bumps and imperfections. I've reviewed Aquatic Glitz before, which you can read about in my Early December Nail post.

On my thumbs are simply 2 coats of Mermaid's Dream, which is a real favourite of mine - it's like nothing I've seen before. It gives an almost sandy effect, like a mermaid tail's scales. Small blue hex glitter mixes in with gold and silver micro glitter in a frosty, pearly, slightly duochrome aqua-gold base. It applies really easily and lasts for a long time!

Over Christmas I both bought and received some really great new polishes, which I hope to show you soon! These include the Sprinkles collection by Nails Inc, OPI Nail Envy, some holographic polishes from The Makeup Store and some other ones too!

If you have any questions about anything I used in this manicure, or any other posts I've done, please feel free to ask away!

Thank you for reading!

NOTD: Models' Own Peacock Green with Jewelled Index Finger

Hello!

Today I've got a really simple and effective nail art look. Accent fingers are always so much fun to do, and add a little extra interest to an otherwise run-of-the-mill manicure.
Recently I took a trip to Poundland and got some really cool bits and pieces there! I picked up 3 glitter polishes, a Revlon polish in Lilac Pastelle (I'll report back on these at a later date) and 2 wheels of nail art bits and bobs.
The first wheel contains little polymer clay cane butterflies in all different colours! They're very cute and stay on well provided you use a cuticle stick to get them to sit continuously along the curve of the nail bed.
The second wheel contains little shaped  rhinestones in every colour of the rainbow! There are hearts, round ones, squares, moons, stars...even little black triangles for when I want to create a studded effect.
Anyway, I decided to use the rhinestones to create a simple accent nail on a dark manicure. I don't actually own that many dark nail polishes, but this one that I used is a personal favourite. It's Peacock Green by Models' Own, and it's beautiful!

This is a picture of my right hand - I only did an accent nail on my left, but I think I'll do the same on my right this evening. This picture lets you see the general colour makeup of this polish. It's supposed to be a duochrome, and it's a very subtle one at that, but that's why I like it I suppose. The duochrome effect means that in some lights, it appears to be a dark bottle green verging on teal. Turn your nail the other way, and it's a shimmery forest green! The nature of the shimmer is vaguely frosty and pearly but very rich, and the overall effect of the polish is extremely shiny, even without topcoat.

I applied the gems by waiting until PG was dry (2 coats), then I put on a layer of clear topcoat. Once tacky, I used a cuticle stick to pick up gems and drop them onto the nail surface. When the topcoat was almost dry, I gently pressed the gems down to make sure they stuck properly. Then, I put on a layer of an acrylic topcoat to secure them.
Again, you can see here just how shiny the polish is! It applies evenly and is completely opaque in 2 relatively fast-drying coats, but if you wanted a slightly sheerer look I think you could get away with one coat, although this would diminish the colour a lot in my opinion.
As for chipping, I can't comment yet as I've only had this on for half a day or so, but I will report back next time I post to update you!

Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoyed this post! :)

Product Roundup: Superdrug 2 in 1 Nail & Hand Cream, Models Own 'Peacock Green' Nail polish

Hello again!

It's been a while since I posted...life has been getting in the way as usual...
Over the past half a month or so I've gotten a few new bits and pieces on my travels around the shops.
I thought it might be a good idea to update with a roundup of some of what I've managed to find!

1)  Superdrug 2 in 1 Hand & Nail Cream

You may have seen me mention before that one of my very good friends works in Superdrug, so quite often we'll go there after college and she'll tell me about the new nail stuff / cosmetics that are in store. The other day we went in so that I could find something to help strengthen my paper-thin, bendy nails. Unfortunately for my nails, I paint them so much that they're bearing the brunt of damage from regular acetone use. Luckily I've switched over to an acetone free remover (also from Superdrug!) that's gentler and also smells weirdly nice for a solvent....mysterious.

Anyway, I asked her to help me find something that would help restore my nails to a stronger state without costing me too much. Lately I seem to run out of money quickly (probably due to too much time spent in places like Superdrug!) so this is really important. She ran off and found me a bottle of this  amazing stuff:

(I thought I'd include ingredients just in case.)

The cream is nice and moisturising and not too greasy at all. It smells floral but not overtly so, and best of all is only 99p! It's great if you have dry hands/cuticles, which is an especial problem in Autumn/Winter. I find it really useful if I have a cracked cuticle to use some of this to ease the damage.

The best thing about this cream is that it actually does what it says on the tin - it does help strengthen my nails immensely! As I said, my nails are very weak at the moment, and after a week of regular use (by that I mean massaging the cream into bare nails once / twice a day) my nails are holding up much better. They're peeling less and feel much much stronger and less dry! My right hand nails especially are extremely strong compared to how they were, which is rare for me as my nails have always been weak.

Overall, I love love love this cream, it smells lovely and does a great job of sorting dry cuticles, weak nails and dry hands. A great product for the colder months!

2)  Models Own nail polish in Peacock Green:

1 coat

2 moderate coats

2 coats PG, 1 coat American Apparel Meteor Shower

Again, 2 coats PG, 1 coat AA Meteor Shower

Peacock Green is a lovely, subtly shimmery green duochrome. Its main base colour is a lovely conifer green, kind of bottle green if you look at it in certain lights. In other lights, however, you can identify hints of teal and blue. This gives it the aforementioned duochrome effect.
It has a nice green shimmer going through it and applies smoothly. Drying time is pretty average. It's opaque for me in 2 moderate coats. I can't say much about chipping yet, but it appears to be holding up well!

I tried a coat of American Apparel's Meteor Shower nail polish on top, and the results were great! MS is a clear base with shards of gold foil in it. It's on the thick side but applies nicely and dries quite quickly. I have a weakness for cool topcoats as you can mix and match them with pretty much any colour, and as a big fan of all things gold this polish is a sure fire winner for me.

As always, I used my Sally Hansen Hard as Wraps as a base coat and Revlon Liquid Quick Dry to speed up drying time (this stuff is great, it smells of lychees and does the job really well!).

That's me done rambling for the minute, thanks for reading!  ♫

Pink Crystal Nails Tutorial / Barry M Jewel nail paint Review

Hello! ♫ ~ (◕‿◕✿)

One of my best friends works in Superdrug, and so I usually get to know when they have new things coming in as far as nail polish is concerned - this is really great as you can imagine because I can look forward to getting all the latest stuff!
So I was delighted to hear that Barry M have a couple new bits and pieces out. These include a Jewel nail paint range and a Gelly Hi-Shine range. The Jewel range is a gorgeous, very inventive selection of glitter polishes - the diversity of colours and textures is just amazing, and at £2.99 a bottle I was so so excited to get down to Superdrug and buy them! I have to say, the combinations of glitter are perfection in my opinion, and for such a cheap price it seems like Barry M are way ahead of the rest of the drugstore polish brands in my town. ♫
The Gelly Hi-Shine range is really cool too, there's about 9 shades if I remember correctly, and all the polishes dry to an extremely glossy, shiny finish, just like a gel manicure (hence the name!). These Gelly polishes are £3.99.

Anyway, today I'm going to be showing you 2 of the Jewel polishes - I've used them to create a pink crystal-themed look. (I also bought a gorgeous bright red-toned pink from the Gelly range, but I'll be reviewing that when I next do my nails!)

Firstly, here are the two polishes that I picked up:

This one is called Pink Sapphire Glitter. It's a clear base chock full of hexagonal pink glitter, super small round pink glitter, bar-shaped holo and hexagonal holo glitter. It goes on very easily, is quick drying and has a great fomula - not at all gloopy, which is surprising considering the amount of glitter in it! The bar glitter is especially beautiful in the light.

This is called Rose Quartz Glitter. It's a mix of tiny round holo and hexagonal rose pink glitter in a clear base. Again, formula and drying time are excellent and the fine holo glitter gives a lovely sheen to the nail.

Here we have photos of the finished look and what I used to achieve it:

L-R: OPI Rosy Future, Barry M Rose Quartz Glitter, Barry M Pink Sapphire Glitter, Paul and Joe Sprite

The method is very simple.

1) Put on 2 coats of Sprite. Sprite is a pale apple green and rosy pink duochrome. It's one of my most treasured polishes for a few reasons - the bottle, the very unusual colour and the price (£10.50, ouch!). In one light it appears to be an apple green pearl on the nail, in another it's a rosy glowing pink.
2) Next, apply 1 coat of Rosy Future. This is a pale, milky purple-pink duochrome, it's more sheer than Sprite and is more purple tinted. I just used this to make the colour underneath lean more towards pink in general than green to match the glitters.
3) Put on a coat of Pink Sapphire Glitter. Make sure you spread the pink hex glitter around evenly!
4) Apply a coat of Rose Quartz Glitter on top. Again, try and keep application even to get a good texture.
5) Finish off with topcoat. I personally use 17 Lasting Fix nail polish in clear - it's honestly the best I've ever used, it dries so quickly, isn't gloopy and is very very shiny. It's also £2.99!

I hope you liked this tutorial, it's very easy to do but is so lovely on any length of nail from short to long due to the gentle prettiness of the pinks used. The glitter also makes nails look a bit longer too! ♫

(P.S. - Just for your information, I've got a couple of photos of Sprite and Rosy Future with just Pink Sapphire on top for you to see - it's a less blingy but still very very pretty combination!)

Ruby Slippers Jelly Nails

Hello!
Today I have another nail tutorial for you. This time it's a kind of jelly sandwich, it's pretty simple to do.
I used Louise Gray for Topshop's 'Pinch Punch', Barry M's 'Red Wine', a glitter topcoat from Rimmel and a clear polish to finish from 17's Lasting Fix range. The steps are as follows:
1. Apply base coat as usual.
2. Apply an even coat of 'Pinch Punch'- I usually dab it on to spread the silver glitter evenly.
3. Now put a good coat of the glitter topcoat on top. This way you get to see both types of glitter at once!
3. Next apply a thin coat of 'Red Wine' on top of this- this is great because it tints the glitter underneath red, but still lets it sparkle in the light. You don't need much at all to cover your nail and it's a lovely, semi-sheer jelly red.

Below you can find a step by step photo guide to this process and some pictures of the polishes too.

Rimmel's Glitter Topcoat in 'Disco Gold', it's about £4-5 if I remember correctly.
'Red Wine' by Barry M, this was £2.99 from Superdrug.
'Pinch Punch' by Louise Gray for Topshop, this was about £5 or £6 I think.
